Never too old

World's speediest broadband used by 75-year-old
13/07/2007
A 75-year-old Swedish woman has hit the headlines by becoming the owner of the world's fastest web connection. The 40 Gigabits per second line has been installed in the home of Sigbritt Lothberg - who has never previously used a computer - at the request of her son, Cisco employee Peter Lothberg. Karlstad Stadsnat, a worker at the network arm of the local council, helped to arrange the installation and said that it was 'more than just a demonstration', reports news website The Local. Mr Lothberg added: 'I want to show that there are other methods than the old-fashioned ways such as copper wires and radio, which lack the possibilities that fibre has.' Network boss Hafsteinn Jonsson claimed that the most difficult part of the process was installing the Windows operating system on Ms Lothberg's PC. Last month, research firm Point Topic claimed that nearly 300 million people around the world now have internet access via a fast broadband connection.
